Eclectic Elegance, Sydney

This 15-year-old Sydney apartment had yellow walls, purple curtains and red accent walls, and was in need of modernising.

Creative solution:

  • Paint the red walls the same grey as the modular furniture
  • The yellow of the walls was instantly drained with the use of the charcoal carpet and grey furniture so a total repaint was unnecessary
  • The purple curtains were reversed so the lining faced inside and the purple outside
  • Modern graphic designs on the rug and cushions together with large artwork and lamps transformed the space into a comfortable family space
  • Mirrors in the entry hall with black frames created a sense of openness and interest giving a peak at the living area with reflections of the water views over the Harbour
  • Dramatic black Coco Republic dining chairs with outdoor fabric are practical and comfortable but stylish
  • Inherited Purple and Orange feature walls in the bedroom gave scope for imaginative drama in these rooms. Studded bedhead, studded footstools, mirrored side tables and accessories from Café Lighting helped create a fabulous space
  • Who would guess the $9 bedside tables topped with a leather tray were from Ikea. The Hermes orange cardboard boxes underneath add panache
