1980s house renovated, The Gap
Brief: open up small rooms to create open plan modern living. Move walls to create larger bedrooms and bathrooms.
Design Features:
- Wall between the formal living and kitchen family was removed
- New kitchen was reconfigured to extend into the newly opened spaces creating a huge 3m island bench
- The flooring was replaced throughout to unify the spaces with a Custom Wood commercial grade wood effect flooring which was soft underfoot with a lifetime guarantee
- The back wall of the smallest bedroom was pushed out to the eves and became a large master bedroom with modern floor to ceiling windows framing the bed and overlooking the garden and stylish landscaping
- The toilet room was incorporated into the main bathroom which became a very large master ensuite
- The largest bedroom had windows on two sides so we moved the walls and made it smaller
- The original tiny ensuite was made into a large main bathroom by the extra space created by moving the wall
- The result was an open plan functional home with a large master bedroom and spacious ensuite and two equal sized children’s rooms
- The whole family area opened out to the landscaped courtyard and entertaining area. A series of closed off dark rooms became a light filled workable space
